What is Polynomial Remainder?

The remainder theorem says the remainder when P(x) is divided by (x − a) is exactly P(a). Synthetic division is the fast pencil-and-paper way to get both the quotient and that remainder in one pass.

How it works

The tool runs synthetic division on the polynomial's coefficients, returning the quotient polynomial and the remainder, then confirms it by evaluating P(a) directly. A zero remainder means (x − a) is a factor.
