About Image Tools

Image tools are among the most-searched utility categories on the web, and our suite runs entirely client-side using the Canvas API, ML models, and pdf-lib. Whether you need to compress a photo for your website, convert between JPG/PNG/WebP, remove a solid background, or check whether your phone photos are embedding GPS coordinates in EXIF metadata, these tools keep your images private while delivering results instantly.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between JPG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF?

JPG is best for photos and complex images (lossy, small files). PNG supports transparency and is lossless (better for logos and graphics). WebP offers better compression than both JPG and PNG with transparency support — ideal for web performance. AVIF is even more efficient than WebP but has less universal browser support as of 2025.

Will compressing an image reduce its quality?

Some quality loss is inherent in lossy compression (JPG, WebP), but our compressor lets you preview the result and adjust the quality slider to find the best balance between file size and visual quality. At 80-90% quality, the difference is often imperceptible while file size drops significantly.

Is it safe to upload personal photos to an online image tool?

All our image tools process files entirely in your browser. Your photos are never uploaded to any server — they stay on your device. This is a meaningful privacy advantage over most competing tools that require server-side processing.

How do I remove the background from a photo for free?

Our Background Remover uses an in-browser ML segmentation model to automatically detect subjects and remove backgrounds. Upload your photo, and the model runs locally — no account, no server upload, and completely free.

What is EXIF data and why should I strip it before sharing photos?

EXIF is metadata embedded in photos by cameras and phones — it can include the camera model, date/time, exposure settings, and critically, precise GPS coordinates of where the photo was taken. Our Metadata Viewer lets you see everything your photo reveals before you share it, and download a clean copy with all metadata stripped.
