Sentence Counter
Count the sentences in pasted text using proper splitting, with a row for each sentence.
What is Sentence Counter?
A naive sentence counter tallies full stops, and full stops are not sentences: “3.5 pages”, “et al.”, “J. R. R.” and an ellipsis all contain periods that end nothing, while a heading or list item often ends a sentence with no terminator at all. The difference matters because the count feeds average sentence length, which feeds the readability formulas — a counter that miscounts inflates every score downstream.
How it works
The text runs through the category's shared sentence splitter, which masks decimal points, common abbreviations, initials and ellipses before looking for terminator runs, so only genuine sentence ends are found. A final sentence with no terminator is still counted, because lists and headings are sentences too. Each sentence is then tokenised so the table can show its own word count, and the longest sentence is named because it is usually the one worth splitting.
