Course Load Calculator
Check whether your enrolled credits make you a full-time or part-time student.
What is Course Load?
Full-time student status is a credit threshold, not a feeling: enrolling in fewer credits than the line changes eligibility for housing, insurance, scholarships and financial aid, and it often happens by accident when a course is dropped. The threshold is commonly 12 credits for US undergraduates, but it varies by country, level and institution, which is why it is an input rather than a constant.
How it works
Credits enrolled are divided by the full-time threshold to give a load ratio. Ratios at or above 1 are full-time, with a further overload band at 1.5; below that the classification steps down through three-quarter and half-time to part-time, matching the enrollment bands many institutions use for aid and housing.
