What is Bearing?

The initial bearing is the compass direction of the great-circle path at departure; the final bearing is the direction at arrival, measured forward along the same path.

How it works

We apply the spherical bearing formula in atan2 form, compute the back-bearing from destination to start, and rotate it 180° for the final bearing. Both are shown in degrees and 16-point compass notation.
