What is Base58?

Base58 is a binary-to-text encoding designed for Bitcoin addresses. It drops ambiguous characters (0/O, I/l) and keeps leading zero bytes as leading 1s.

How it works

The UTF-8 bytes are treated as a big-endian BigInt and repeatedly divided by 58; leading zero bytes become leading '1' characters. Decoding reverses the arithmetic.
