What is Base32?

Base32 (RFC 4648) encodes bytes using only uppercase letters and digits 2–7, avoiding look-alike characters. It is common in TOTP secrets, rclone, and other contexts where humans read the string.

How it works

The UTF-8 bytes are packed into 5-bit groups and mapped to the Base32 alphabet; padding (=) aligns the output to multiples of 8. Decoding reverses the bit packing.
