What is Compound Inequality?

A compound inequality is two conditions at once. With AND both must hold, so the answer is where the two solution sets overlap; with OR either may hold, so the answer is everything in either set.

How it works

Each inequality is solved independently, then the two solution intervals are intersected (AND) or unioned and merged (OR). Reporting when the AND yields nothing is the case that catches students out, so it is shown explicitly.
