What is YAML Path?

A path query tool for YAML: enter a dot path with [index] list access and get the value back as formatted YAML.

How it works

The YAML parses with js-yaml, then the path tokens (with [n] rewritten to .n) walk the object tree; missing keys return a clear error.

  1. Enter your input. Type or paste your input into the field above — the tool responds instantly.
  2. Review the result. Output updates live as you type. Everything runs entirely in your browser.
  3. Copy or download. Use the Copy button to grab the result, or Download to save it as a file.

Examples

Extracting a value

Query .services.web.image in a compose file to pull out just that value — yq-style paths without installing a CLI.

Common mistakes

Path syntax differences

Dotted paths and bracket notation differ from jq. The tool accepts both and shows the matched value.

Frequently asked questions

Does it support array indexes?

Yes — paths like .items[0].name work for lists.

Can I query multiple paths?

Yes — comma-separated paths return each result labeled.
