What is Fixed Width → CSV?

A fixed-width parser: give it the column widths and it slices each line into cells, trimming padding and producing RFC 4180 CSV.

How it works

Each line is sliced at the given widths, whitespace-trimmed, and escaped with the shared CSV writer.

  1. Enter your input. Type or paste your input into the field above — the tool responds instantly.
  2. Review the result. Output updates live as you type. Everything runs entirely in your browser.
  3. Copy or download. Use the Copy button to grab the result, or Download to save it as a file.

Examples

Parsing legacy reports

Turn a fixed-width data dump into proper CSV — define column widths once and the tool slices every row consistently.

Common mistakes

Misaligned columns in the source

Truncated or padded rows break width-based slicing. The tool flags rows whose lengths don't match the spec.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know the column widths?

Use the file's documentation or infer them from the header — the tool can auto-guess from a sample row.

Does it trim padding?

Yes — leading/trailing padding is stripped per column, with an option to keep it.
